Finding Love this Valentine’s Day
February 13, 2012
Valentine’s Day is the day of love, romance. Yet, for those people who have lost love, the day can seem daunting. But the question I’d ask is, can anyone really be loveless? Even if we don’t have a romantic partner in our lives (or our relationship isn’t ideal), can we cherish the love we do have?
I’m reminded of a Valentine’s Day a couple years ago when I had split with my on-again/off-again boyfriend. Our first date had been on Valentine’s Day and there I was two years later thinking of him and feeling lonely.
I opened my mailbox, and what did I find? A Valentine! No, not from the ex but from my darling daughter who was off to college. Now, she had no idea I was feeling blue. But her little card completely turned my day around.
So if you need more love in your life this Valentine’s Day, why not try some of these ideas?
- Call the ones you love – It could be your adult child, an aunt you haven’t talked to for a while or a good friend from college. Make an effort to connect; it will help you feel loved!
- Do something special for yourself – Schedule a manicure or a massage, go buy that special fishing lure you’ve wanted or maybe take a drive in the country.
- Watch some good, romantic movies – Bring back that loving feeling by enjoying falling in love through your favorite movie. Some favorites: When Harry Met Sally, Under the Tuscan Sun and French Kiss.
Remember, you are only as alone as you want to be on Valentine’s Day!
