How to get what you want!

July 24, 2012

Ever think about someone and have that person unexpectedly contact you? Or have you had a song in your mind and you flip on the radio and it’s playing? What if we can use that same focused attention to get what we want in life?

By now, you know me as a fairly level-headed, suburban Montanan. I work in the banking industry, for heaven’s sake! So being woo woo is not my primary nature. But I’ve been playing around with the idea that we can manifest what we want in our life with focused attention.

I’ll use the example of someone unexpectedly contacting me. I met Scott once before and haven’t seen him in more than a year. Scott stayed at my house as part of the Couch Surfer’s program and left behind a pair of shorts. I asked him to send me his mailing address so I could return the shorts to him but he never sent the address. I had placed the shorts in my SUV because I had planned to donate them to charity. When I arrived at St. Vincent de Paul, I felt guilty about donating them because Scott had told me that he really loved those shorts.

One year later, I had the shorts in my SUV, but I didn’t know how to contact Scott as I had lost his email address and phone number. Frankly, I was sick of the shorts in my vehicle and wanted to get rid of them one way or another. Within a few days, Scott called me out of the blue to ask about his shorts. Keep in mind it has been more than a year since we had last spoken! And even more interesting, two other people I was thinking about last week and haven’t talked to in a while also contacted me!

So here’s how this stuff works. What we think about we bring about. It works for people calling us out of the blue, it works for finding a parking space on a busy street, and it works in creating even bigger things–a better job, a relationship of our dreams or more money in our lives. Here are some tips to get you started:

  1. Know what you really, really want. An example in my life, I really want to have my yard landscaped by the end of the year and I need the money or resources to create it. The more intensity you have about a particular desire, the more energy will be available to manifest it.
  2. Envision what the outcome will look like. For my ideal yard, I envision lush green grass, underground sprinklers, an herb garden and beautiful shrubs. The key is to let the mind picture become more and more specific and vivid.
  3. Act on intuition. When you hold something in your mind over a period of time, you will get some promptings to take action. You might suddenly remember a friend you haven’t seen in a while who has a beautifully landscaped yard. Or you feel an urge to walk down a different street and come upon some beautiful shrubs you’ve never seen before. Thenumber one key is to take action on these intuitive hits.
Let me know how this works in your life. Happy creating!
