Taking the “Leap” on Leap Day!

Happy Leap Day! February 29, or Leap Day, happens only once every four years. During Leap Day, legend has it that the Irish had a tradition where women could propose to men. If the man refused, he was obligated to buy the lass a dozen pairs of gloves. While I’m not advocating that if you’re a woman dating someone that you go out and propose to that special someone today. But I would encourage you to consider taking a “leap” in love that you may not have imagined. Here are some ideas for you:
- If you’re single and have a crush on someone, ask him or her out on a date. There’s no sense in pining away over someone. Find out if he/she is interested! This advice applies to women as well as men. I hear from many women that they would never ask a man out. Yet, men tell me that they would LOVE for a woman to ask for a date.
- If you’re in a relationship, surprise your significant other by “leaping” outside your traditional routines. Nothing enhances a relationship more than a little spice. If you typically come home from work, change into sweats and make dinner, break the pattern. How about picking up gourmet take-out from your favorite restaurant, wearing something attractive and putting on some romantic music? Or surprise your honey by planning an unexpected evening out.
- Finally, don’t wait every four years to “leap” out of your comfort zone. Take a chance in all aspects of your life. Apply for that dream job, go back to college, take up that language or plan that dream vacation. Life is short and taking the leap means we’re not missing out on creating a life worth living.
